## Gap analysis (hard look)

### A. Evaluation / science gaps

| # | Gap | Why it weakens proof | Stronger if… | Pri |
|---|-----|----------------------|--------------|-----|
| E1 | No holdout detection-rate study | Cannot publish “% catch rate” | Labeled corpus of abhorrent vs benign tool traces; report precision/recall with CI | P0 |
| E2 | No third-party red team report | Hold-tests ≠ formal RT | External RT or independent re-run of smoke/purple | P0 |
| E3 | Purple corpora thin | Few shapes; passwd double-fires SECRET | Expand fixtures; fix secret regex so `/etc/passwd` is path-only | P1 |
| E4 | No adversarial model loop | Agents can probe smarter than fixtures | Automated red agent under sandbox + warrant | P1 |
| E5 | No multi-day ops metrics | No false-freeze / freeze-duration log | Instrument watch: FPs, MTTR clear, arm hours | P1 |
| E6 | Paper is systems report not peer eval | Fine for arXiv draft | Add related-work table + explicit research questions | P1 |

### B. Cannot-bypass / coverage gaps

| # | Gap | Why | Stronger if… | Pri |
|---|-----|-----|--------------|-----|
| C1 | Native Grok/runtime shell outside host | FREEZE does not stop it | Runtime disables native shell; all FS via `shell.*` | P0 |
| C2 | No CI gate that smoke runs on every agent-control push for freeze cycle | Freeze cycle only manual | Add `proof_suite` to CI (offline subset + optional live) | P1 |
| C3 | Extension disconnect / version lag | Operational flaky | Auto-detect + operator badge; health in `session` | P1 |
| C4 | Browser search returned 0 results once | Weak live X proof | Retry/backoff; fixture with saved HTML; document flake | P2 |
| C5 | Desktop smoke limited to 1Password deny | Missing layout/D4 full matrix in CI | Scripted D4 confirm-reject offline if possible | P2 |
| C6 | No proof that handlers never run on DENY in host path under freeze for *all* tools | Sampled only navigate | Property test: random non-allow tools under FREEZE | P1 |

### C. Policy / abhorrent detection gaps

| # | Gap | Why | Stronger if… | Pri |
|---|-----|-----|--------------|-----|
| D1 | Semantic abuse inside allowed tools | Allowed navigate/type can still be harmful | Host-category denylists; content classifiers on args | P1 |
| D2 | Secret regex hits `passwd` in paths | Overlap path vs secret | Split detectors; path wins for `/etc/passwd` | P2 |
| D3 | No multi-tenant / multi-user model | Single operator host | Document single-user assumption in paper | P2 |
| D4 | Campaign thresholds not calibrated | May FP under heavy legitimate use | Log score distributions during normal work week | P1 |
| D5 | Abhorrent watch needs receipt *history* | Cold start = quiet | Synthetic canary probes in purple only | P2 |

### D. Product / packaging gaps

| # | Gap | Why | Stronger if… | Pri |
|---|-----|-----|--------------|-----|
| K1 | Leashes not on PyPI | Harder third-party install | Optional packages + install docs | P2 |
| K2 | Site paper still unshipped | Weak inbound proof | `/ship-site` papers slice | P1 |
| K3 | No signed release attestations | Supply chain story thin | GitHub attestations / SLSA for mcp-assure | P2 |
| K4 | No SBOM / dependency audit badge | Trust story | generate SBOM for mcp-assure (zero deps helps) | P3 |
| K5 | Desktop TCC / Accessibility flake | Live proof host-dependent | Document required grants matrix | P2 |

### E. Narrative / claim hygiene

| # | Gap | Stronger if… | Pri |
|---|-----|--------------|-----|
| N1 | CLAIMS.md versions lag (browser 0.3.7 vs 0.5.0) | Refresh claim cards after each release | P1 |
| N2 | Paper figure is illustrative AI art | Redraw as pure SVG/diagram from code labels | P2 |
| N3 | No single “proof board” command before today | `proof_suite` CLI (this sprint) | P0 done when shipped |

## Growing “would make it stronger” list (actionable)

### Tier 1 — next sprints

1. ~~**Unified `cli.py proof`**~~ **DONE** — `cli.py proof` / `--offline`.
2. ~~**Freeze-cycle**~~ **DONE** — live in proof_suite; offline FREEZE file in CI.
3. ~~**Secret vs path collision**~~ **DONE**.
4. ~~**Refresh CLAIMS.md**~~ **DONE** (2026-08-03 versions).
5. **Ship papers site slice** (operator `/ship-site`) — portfolio draft ready, not live.
6. ~~**Labeled trace corpus v0**~~ **DONE** — 25/25 hits, 0 FP on synthetic corpus; `hit_table.py`.
7. **Weekly ops log template** — freezes, FP notes, arm hours.
8. Expand corpus to 100+ with held-out 20% (still no public % claim until N/study design).

### Tier 2 — stronger paper / arXiv

8. Related-work comparison table (MCP-Secure, CSA, NSA note, vendor gateways) — one paragraph each, honest differentiation.
9. Threat-model figure + data-flow figure (vector, not generative).
10. Independent re-run instructions for a third machine (macOS only today).
11. Linux/Windows desktop plane status: N/A or future work section.
12. Appendix: full smoke transcript dated.

### Tier 3 — research / product

13. Runtime cannot-bypass for native shell (product partner).
14. Formal external red team engagement + public summary.
15. Semantic policy on browser hosts (category feeds).
16. Multi-agent sandbox purple (ADM red/blue) under warrant.
17. Benchmark vs open MCP gateways on shared fixtures.

## How to grow this list

After each session, append:

```markdown
| date | proof-id | result | gap opened/closed | next |
```

Do **not** delete failed proofs—log them. Failed proofs are evidence of honesty.

## Meta-rule

A stronger proof is one a **third party can re-run** without trusting narrative.
If it only works on this Mac with sticky ARM and TCC grants, label it **local live-proof**, not **portable verified**.
